Triple-deck theory
Triple-deck theory is a theory that describes a three-layered boundary-layer structure when sufficiently large disturbances are present in the boundary layer. This theory is able to successfully explain the phenomenon of boundary layer separation, but it has found applications in many other flow setups as well, including the scaling of the lower-branch instability (T-S) of the Blasius flow, boundary layers in swirling flows, etc. James Lighthill, Lev Landau and others were t… WebNov 1, 2002 · A viscous–inviscid interaction triple-deck structure is developed to describe the thermomechanical interaction of an air boundary layer with ice sheets and liquid films. …

WebA triple-deck theory was developed for thermo-mechanical interaction of air, ice and water. A novel interaction regime was found in which the low speed lower - deck flow can interact with both the liquid - film/droplets and the ice growth through a Stephan condition. A new broad band icing instability was observed, which is
WebAn introducton to triple-deck theory for steady, two-dimensional boundary layers in low-speed flow is presented. It aims to clarify how the rational structure of the theory can rest … WebJan 1, 1991 · The theory is self-consistent and does not depend on the problem being investigated. Application of these theories to the linear three-dimensional compressible stability of two-dimensional compressible boundary layers is described and limitations of the triple-deck theory are discussed. 1.
WebApr 19, 2006 · The correct mathematical structure for such interactions at large Reynolds number is given by the asymptotic triple-deck theory. In the present work the triple-deck equations for supersonic and hypersonic flows are solved for both compression and expansion corners. Results are presented for a range of corner angles, including … WebA triple- deck analysis of a supersonic flow involving a tempera- ture jump was chosen as a more tractable "pathfinder" before embarking on the more complex triple-deck analysis of a.nonequilibrium, catalytic jump problem. The derivation of this triple-deck analysis is originally presented in an earlier paper.' This paper focuses on
